About Adam Dunkels

Adam Dunkels, PhD, is an independent consultant and a pioneer in the Internet of Things. His open source software runs in billions of IoT devices worldwide: the Contiki operating system, the uIP and lwIP TCP/IP stacks, and the Protothreads programming abstraction.

He founded and led Thingsquare for 12 years, shipping more than 30 connected products for clients including ABB, Electrolux, Husqvarna, tado, and LiFX, with more than a million units shipped in total. He now works as a technical advisor, helping technology companies with connectivity architecture, AI systems, and full-stack product development.

The MIT Technology Review named him a TR35, top 35 innovator under 35. He has received the ACM SenSys Test-of-Time award, the ACM EuroSys Roger Needham award, and the ERCIM Cor Baayen award. He is a co-founder of the IPSO Alliance. His book, Interconnecting Smart Objects with IP, was co-authored with JP Vasseur with a foreword by Vint Cerf. He has authored over 80 scientific papers with more than 16,000 citations.
